DRAINAGE LOAN POLL.
HORAHIA SCHEME SANCTIONED.
SMALL BOLLING. Authority 'to borrow' the sum of £15,500 was given the Horahia Drainage Board by its raepayers at a poll taken yesterday. The voting was as follows: — For Agajnst Kopuara'hi School 63 12 Mr. Loach’s, Ngatea 40 28 Total® . 103 40 A three-fifths, majority was required to carry the proposal, and thus the loan was sanctioned with 16 votes to spare. ' As was anticipated, the poll was not a, large one. The voting w'a,s as expected, as in the southern end of the board’s area, many -of those who most require the additional drainage were disfranchised through inability to pay their rates on account of the setbacks received during the bad winters, while those in a more prosperous position, through having more efficient outlets, were able to vote Ogajnst loading their land with further rates. Kerepeehi township settlers, who will derive little benefit, would also vote at the booth at Mr Loach’s residence.
