The many .friends of Mr J. Hubbard', Paeroa, will, be sorry to learn that he is a.t present seriously ill at the Thames Hospital.

Mr P. Jaspers, of the local Post and Telegraph staff, left Paeroa yeste"day on three weeks’ holiday, which he will spend at Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay.

M’r B W. Butler,, late engineer to the Manietoto County. Council, Otago, has been appointed to the staff of the Paeroa office of the Public Works Department.

Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., leaves for Wellington to-morrow on matters affecting the Ohinemurj electorate. It is, his intention to return to Paeroa in time to attend the Hikutaja Sports on January 29. During February Mr Samuel will make a complete tour of the electorate.
