ACCIDENT AT PUKE.
MAN FOUND UNCONSCIOUS.
FALL FROM A BICYCLE.
As Mr L. F. Jones, farmer, Komata, was returning to hits home shortly before 11 o’clock last night he heard groans coming from the side of the road at the bend opposite Mr J, Wight’s' residence at the Puke. Mr Jones, who was on horseback, dismounted, amd found a man lying near a bicycle on the roadside. He was bleeding profusely, and was unconscious- Assistance from the nearby residents was sought, and Dr. Little was telephoned for. After receiving attention the victim was conveyed to the Arohanui private nursing home. Further inquiries revealed that the victim was Mr J. D. Crawford, the Vvcl'l-known football referee and assistant scoutmaster at Paeroa! Mr Crawford, who resides at the Railway Boardinghouse, has been working for some time at Mr Wyn-j yard’s flaxmill, Awaiti, and it is assumed that he was returning to his home a.t Paeroa when lie was either thrown or fell off his bicycle at the place mentioned.
Mr Crawford is a returned soldier, andi it is understood that his parents res.ide at Dunedin. At 11.30 o’clock this morning Mr Crawford regained partial consciousness and said something unintelligible about a motor-cart. After asking for a drink he again lapsed into unconsciousness.
