HOSPITAL REPORTS.
« STATEMENTS FOR THE MONTH. The following reports for the various departments at the Th,ames Hospital were submitted to a meeting of the board on Monday :— SURGEON’S REPORT. The medical superintendent, Dr. JRitchie, reported ior December as follows : Patients admitted, 43 males, 32 femalle's’; discharged, 39 males, 44 females; remaining at date, 27 males, 16-females,. Number of operations, 16 males, 16 females. Deaths, two males and 1 female. Number of out-patients treated, 5 males (40' attendances), 4 females. (8 attendances). MATRON’S REPORT.
The matron, Miss K. M. Ansennc, reported at length on staff and domestic matters in the institution, and stated that matter© ip both departments were satisfactory. A donation of £1 from the Corinthian Lodge, and also from the Lodge of Light, had been received towards, providing Christinas cheer for .the patients. A parcel containing a gift for every patient had been received from an anonymous, donor, and also gifts of fruit and flowers. During December the patients had been entertained by the Futurists’ Concert Co. and the Methodist Choir, and a Christmas tree and carol© had been provided. Maternity Annexe.—During the month, four patients had been admitted. There were four births, and three mothers, and four babies were remaining at date.
» The 'report was adopted. Mr Danby instanced .the good work done by the matron and staff in arranging matters for the pleasure of the patients during the festive season.
O'n the motion of Mr Kennedy it was resolved to send a letter of commendation to the matron. TARARU HOMES.
The superintendent of the District Homes, Tararu, 'reported that 17 males and .2 females were remaining at date. One female had died and one had been discharged. The conduct of tlie inmates had been very satisfactory. The pastures had dried elf. and hand-feeding had been resorted to. The dry spell had been very severe on the crops, and the gardens. In order to keep up the milk supply he would recommend the purchase Of two more cows to replace '.those that were out of profit. ' NURSE TO NATIVES.
The district nurse to natives, Nurse J. Ml Jarrett, Paeroa, reported that slie had attended 41 cases,, involving 96 visits,. There had been three deaths and one birth. Ninb pahs had been visited and lectures given on cleanliness and the care of food. Generally, health in tlie district wasi very good. Mr Brenan said that several 'residents in the Whangamata district had informed him that they were particularly congratulate Nurse Jarrett for the splendid work she had done ill that district.
Mr Robinson stated that report© were frequently reaching him of the good work Nurse Jarrett was performing. The chairman said there was no doubt that Nurse Jarrett was giving freely of her skill, and ability, and it was a matter for congratulation that her services were available. DISTRICT NURSE.
The’ district Nurse at Patetonga, Nurse McNamara, reported that during December she had attended 18 cases, involving 24 visits. Fees received amounted to £2 ss.
