TE AROHA TOURNAMENT.

WIN FOR NGARUAWAHIA. ‘

The 24 th annual tournament in con? mectlon with the Te Aroha Bowling Club was, brought to a conclusion yesterday afternoon. Ideal weather prevailed throughout. The tournament was conceded to be one of .the most successful held for many years, ,and tlie 32 rinks which took part con, stituted a record. ' ‘ The conipeiition was divided into four sections, .the Paeroa. club -being represented by three rinks. At the conclusion of play on Monday evening it was found that three rinks were left in the semi-finals, namely, Paeroa (C. Holes, W. Chamberlain, W. Hamil-ton.-W. H. Taylor), Ngaruawahia (Johnson, McFarlane, Garry, Ciavis), and Hikutaia {Alley, Valentine, P>nder, A. R. Robinson). At this stage the Hikutaia club had played consistently goed bowls, and had not lost a game. The draw for the seinifirals was Taylor, v. Clavis. The game was interesting throughout, but the Ngaruawahia team won rather comfortably by 23 to 11. A large crowd assembled on . the green to watch the final fought out between Hikutaia and Ngaruawahia. The game was intensely interesting, and some magnificent shots were brought off. Robinson’s team, espe, cially, played a great game, and when the scores for the 20th head were Dial ked up the teams were, ,18-aIL .On the last head Clavis put on a three, while Robinson had failed to add to his score, the game ending, Ngaruawahia 23, Hikutaia 18. The winners were heartily congratulated by the president, Mr W. F. Bliss, and the victors and vanquished exchanged compliments. The Hikutaia team was heartily applauded on its meritorious performance in getting right through to the finals without a. loss- When it is considered thaj. there were veteran players from Mt. Eden, Pukekohe, Onehunga, Tauranga, Morrinsville, Matamata, Te Puke, Thames, Te Aroha', and Paeroa taking part in the tournament the performance was very creditable, and the team deserved the congratulations bestowed.
