PAEROA HOSPITAL.

DEIAY CAUSED BY DEPARTMENT. BOARD MEMBERS DISSATISFIED. At a meeting pf the Thames Hospital Board on Monday Mr E. W. Peril itt, Paeroa, forwarded a cheque for £lO 12s 7d, being the final payment on account of the Paeroa maternity hospital. In answer to Mr Robinson the chairman raid that the account had now been paid in full.

In reply to Mr Death the chairman Baid that no further communication, had been received from the department in regard to the Paeroa hospital.

Mr Dea,th pointed out >that the residents. of Paeroa were naturally becoming perturbed over the delay in making a start with the building, and thought that it was high time something definite was dona.

Mr Kennedy said it was very unfair to Paeroa that the matter should be allowed to “hang fire.” If the delay was much longer protracted the contractors would be withdrawing their tenders. He thought that the board should hurry matters up. The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) raid that he could not account for tKe delay. He was of the opinion that it would bo advisable to hold .the matter over until after the pending visit to Thames of the Director-General, of Hospitals The whole question could be gone into thoroughly then.

Mr J. Rowe thought it reasonable to expect the department to move in the matter. The board had done all it could to get the building under construction, and he thought the department might at least acknowledge the board’s last communication, Mr Death pointed out that tne board had recommended the acceptance of a tender for construction in wood, and it was only courtesy to expect a reply fijom the department Finally it was agreed to leave the matter in the hands, of thiei sub-com-mittee appointed to take up wittt Dr. T|. A. Valintine on his arrival.
