MIL THOMAS MCKEOWN.
Mr Thomas McKeown, who has been head-shunter at the railway station, Paeroa, for just over five years, has been promoted. ,to the grade of guard and transferred .to Whangarei. Just before his departure for the North on Monday morning the loco, and passenger staffs of the station assembled to farewell their friend. On behalf of the staff the stationmaster, Mr W. P. Payne, presented Mr McKeown with a smoker’s outfit as a. slight token of the esteem in which he is held by- his fellow-workers. While expressing sorrow- at Mr McKeown’s departure Mr. Payne heartily congratulated him on attaining welldeserved promotion, and extended to him sincere good wishes for his future welfare and success. Mr McKeown was also called on to accept a salad-bowl for Mrs McKeown, together with the good wishes of .the Paeroa staff. Mr McKeown thanked the staff for their tangible expressions of goodwill, and said that , although the transfer meant promotion he was genuinely sorry to be leaving Paeroa and the' many kind friends he and Mrs McKeown had made.
Cheers and congratulations were showered on the gues.ts as the train moved off.
