PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMJH'rt’EE. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa ‘ District High School, was held <-n Saturday evening, the chairman (Mr C H. Pascoe) piesiding over the for- , lowing: Messrs W. T. Power, V/. Purdie, C. T. Mettam, F. Eaddy, A. E. Say, R. T. Thorp, W. H. Blake way, W. L. Lawrence (secretary). Mr G. H. Taylor, the headmaster, was also present. ADDITIONAL STAFF. In reply to the request for relievingteachers while two of the staff were* absent in Auckland s’tting for degree examinations, the Board stated that it had no relieving teachers, available. EXTRA PLAYGROUND. The Board, in response to the committee’s representations, advised that ’ the Department had authorised the purchase of six sections in Block VII, in Wood and Nahum Streets, the area to be untilised as an additional playing area. The chairman said that the information was very gratifying, and .the extra room should be the use of the school for many years. On the motion of the chairman it. was decided 'to .thank the Mayor (Mr Marshall) for bringing the urgent need for the acquisition of .the land before the Minister; of Education during the Mayor’s recent visit to Wellington, and .to record its snicere appreciation of his and Or, Brenan’s efforts in bringing ,th_e matter to a" satisfactory conclusion, j . BILLETING CHILDREN. - The secretary pointed out- that, there would be a number of pupils from various’ parts of " the Thames Valley attending the University examinations at Paeroa at the end of th ip month and the beginning of December. The question of accommodation for pupils having to travel consider—• able distances was concerning the parents. He suggested that perhaps householders in Paeroa would be pared to billet a pupil each during the currency of the examinations. The chairman said that the committee had been endeavouring for years to have Paeroa recognized as a suitable examination centre, aind having attained that object he thought everything possible should be done for" pupils visiting the town. The matter was; Deferred to the headmaster and secretary- to make the best arrangements possible. \ INFANT DEPARTMENT. The matter of increased accommoi-’ dation and structural alterations, to three existing class rooms in the infant department was discussed. It was agreed • that the present large room was quite unsuitable'for the conduct of classes on modern lines, 1 and that certain alterations were desirable. It was also pointed out that there was an inadequacy of furniture in the smaller room. It was resolved, to advise the suplaced before the for its consideration on the lines suggested by the . headmaster. MANUAL SCHOOL PATH. Itl was resolved to advise the supervisor, manual and technical branch, that the committee had approached the borough council with reference to the formation of a path leading :toi the manual school in Miller Avenue, and that the work would be carried oiit by the council as opportunity offered. SCHOOL GROUNDS. Arising out of the visiting committee’s report it was resolved to clear the weeds and long grass on the area at the rear of the drill shed, and that a man be engaged to clear the sides' of the.«ue.wl : y-acquired section; The blackberry and debris to be placed in the gully and burned off. Messrs Say and Mettam wtere appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. . ■ ACCOUNNTS. Accounts totalling £lO 10s 9d were passed for. payment.
