DISTRICT NEWS.
NGATEA. CONCERT PARTY. A very creditable concert was given in the Ngatea Hall last evening by a party front Thames. There was a very large attendance, including many from Waitakaruru and Pipiroa. The proceeds will go to the Methpdris.t Church building fund. The first part of the programme .was an amusing playlet in which Mr and Mrfe Garland and Misses Kennedy, Cox, and Clark took part, and the second half was the farce “A Quiet Family,” by the party that gave it in Turua last week. Other items were somgs by Messrs Hockin and T.wientyman and recitations by Miss Gleeson. ROADING IMPROVEMENTS. Although there is now a considerable amount of traffic on the NgateaKaihere road, that portion along fhe tramline and the Pouarua Road section is very rough. Some light discing has been done by Lands Department employees, and .the surface now resembles corrugated iron. More discing and grading is to be carried out.
GENERAL.
Patching work on the bitumen roads at Turua commenced yesterday. There is a proposal to form a ratepayers’ association in Kaihere. A meeting will be held to-moriiow. The official opening of the Hopai Tennis Club’s courts for .the season will take place to-morrow. Cricketers on the Plains ano preparing for the coming Inter-cl'ub matches, and most of the teams have arranged practice matches for to-morrow. During the month Qf October the Plunket Society’s- nui'se was visited by I's mothers and 17 babies ait Kerepeehi, 25 mothers and 24 babies at Ngatea, and by 12 mothers and 12 babies at Turua.
