PAEROA’S FIRE ALARM SYSTEM.
Sir, —As a business man of this town may I be allowed to express my opinion on the fire alarm system of the borough. It is nothing short of scandalous ! The one and only bell is, to begin with, go hedged in away behind large buildings that the sound cannot possibly travel far, with the result that at the recent serious fire more than half of the firemen knew nothing of the outbreak till the blaze was past history. The brigade is well scattered, as it should be, in every part of the town, and why can’t we, taking our example from have two or three bells in various parts to warn these men who volunteer their services, in such necessary and thankless work. Many business men, particularly those living at the Puke end, have no means, of warning if their business premises in the town are in danger. No other town has a'keener or sharper brigade, nor so strikingly poor and inadequate a, means bf warning its brigade for duty. For the sake of safety, can this inSin bell be moved to a more central space’ and other bells be added to the outskirts of the town. ACTION.
