ELECTION NIGHT BEHAVIOUR.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—A.more disgusting and disgraceful scene than that which occurred here on election day night when Mr Samuel was returning thanks for being elected to represent us in Parliament for the ensuing term would surely be difficult to imagine. As a witness of what took place, and of what was said, I should say it is up to .those who were responsible to immediately publicly apologise to .Mr Samuel and then hasten tb resign any responsible and puliTic position which they may hold in our town and leave the country. Such poor sporting and public spiritedness, mean and contemptible language as that which was uttered only goes to prove what stuff these individuals are made of,-and we would be a better community without them. Although no one isi directly or indirectly responsible for his or her name or nationality, better by far is it to be a loyal and patriotic Jew than a disloyal “Red Fed” or Bolshevik, living in a country under British protection. Notwithstanding all the abuse that was levelled at our new member it was pleasing to witness the cool, calm, and collected manner in which Mr Samuel treated his enemies, and ■this should be remembered to his credit. I feel absolutely certain that there is no one more sorry than Mr Poland at the lowdown tactics adopted by those who hooted and bellowed at Mr Samuel’s success, and no one can say that the election contest throughout the electorate was fought out on any other than clean and friendly lines as between the two candidates. Now let us, as Mr Coates says, “For God’s sake let us bury the hatchet and get on with thd job.” . FAIR PLAY.
