RAILWAY MATTERS.
REQUESTS' OF PAEROA CHAMBER; IMPROVEMENTS TO BE EFFECTED. A deputation from the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce, comprising Messrs P. Williams (president), W. Marshall, P. E. Brenan, and E. A. Poiritt' (secretary), waited on Mr J. K. Lowe, district engineer, N.Z. ( Railway Department, Auckland, who was in Paeroa on Wednesday. The deputation was introduced by Mr W. Marshall. In reply to the request for additional loading and unloading facilities in the goodis yards Mr Lowe said that, he would strongly recommend the metalling of a further portion of the. yard and the creation of a dead-end so that trucks could be worked by . carriers without any disturbance occasioned by shunting operations. Concerning the request for additional loading facilities and accommodation for pigs Mr Lowe said that the council’s recommendation would be given' effect to and the increased accommodation provided. Mr Williams introduced the matter of erecting a flag-station in the vicin-' ity of the P.aeroa-Te Aroha road crossing in view of the distance of the station from the town, and also be'ca.use people travelling from Waihi and intermediate stations to Paeroa had ,to “come back on their tracks.” After consultation with the stationmaster (Mr W. P. Payne) Mr Lowe , suggested that the chamber should, make application in writing, setting out full details as .to proposed site, etc., when the request would be placed before the proper authorities. Mr Lowo said he could assure the depu< tation that the request would be fully considered on its merits* but he was not in a position to> give any indication at the present time.
