The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court is being held at the Paeroa Courthouse to-day.
The public .are notified that arrangements are being made to screen the results of the general election at the "Gazette” Office on Wednesday night. .
The attention of electors is drawn to the hours of polling in the. Ohinemuri electorate, which are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. In the Thames electorate the houns are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The following are the vital statistics for’ Paeroa for' the month of October, and supplied, by the local registrar, Mr W. E. Ward, with figures for the corresponding month in 1924 in parenthesis: Births, 0 (4); deaths, 2 (3) ; marriages, 0 (2).
Mr P. Keeghan, organiser for the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, is at present working the Haurakl Plains', and is meeting with good results. He reports that round*Turua practically all the farmers have become members.
Considerable enterprise is being shown by Mr E. S. Thomas, Paeroa. Commencing on Wednesday, he proposes running a daily motor service from Paeroa, via Hauraki Plains, to Auckland. The time-table and fares appear elsewhere in these columns.
A three-roomed lean-to and a shed on the farm of Mr A. Cleaver, Rawerawe, Ngatea, was destroyed by fire between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday morning. The married couple who occupied the building escaped in their night attire and only saved woine bedding and clothing.
The rainfall for the month ending at 8 a.rn. on October 31, as recorded at the Lands Office/ Kerepeehi, was a little below the average for October, being 3.6 inches. The average for October during the last 14 years is 3.84 inches. The total, rainfall for the year to date is 33.78 inches, and the average yearly rainfall at Kerepeeri is 44.38 inches. There were 17 days during the month on which rain fell, and these were evenly divided, the longest dry spell being four days. The heaviest fall was for the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on October 3, when .55in wap recorded.
