POLLING DAY.

THE RECORDING OF VOTES. POSITION OF EMPLOYEES. In the matter of conditions as to : the time taken up in voting at the : general elections by factory and shop , employees, section 123 of the Legislature Act, 1908, provides as follows FACTORIES. “(3) It shall not be necessary for any afctory to close during any work-. , ing hours on the polling day, but the occupier of the factory shall afford to each of his employees a reasonable opportunity of" recording his or her vote, and no deduction shall be made from the wages of any such employee in respect of the time occupied.in so recording his or her vote, provided that such time does not exceed one working hour. “(4!) Every occupier of a factory ■ who commits ,a breach of the last preceding subsection is liable to a fine not exceeding five pounds in respect of each employee.” Factory occupiers are thus required merely to give their employees reasonable time to record their votes, but not exceeding one wbrking hour, without deduction from their wages. SHOPS. The Legislature Act provider that where the half-holiday is usually required to be observed in each week on another day .than Wednesday, that half-holiday shall in election week be ■ observed on Wednesday in lieu thereof.
