INSPECTOR’S REPORT.
TRAFFIC ON PLAINS ROADS.
The County Inspector repined inter alia as toltows: —
“During the last month there has been several complaints regarding straying cattle, and I have put a man on for several days to clean up all roads, arid impound any stock straying thereon. Notice boards re parking in Ngatea. township, fire on order, and will be erected as soon as completed. Tenders for sanitary contractor were advertised, but no replies have been received. There was one inquiry, but no tender came in. The Government has gazetted a fuither clause in the Heavy Traffic regulations applying to classifications of roads, and it will be necessary to have the Hauraki Plains couatv roads gazetted as fourth-class roads, with a maximum load of four ton?, including weight of vehicle. I would suggost tt’hat immediate application be made to have all principal roads declared fourthclass.”
Discussing trio report, several councillors expitssed the opinion that the roads should be so classed that the weight ol traffic should be greatly restricted Since the heavy traffic restrictions had been lifted greater damage had been done to the roads than daring all the winter months.
The action .f. the N.Z. Dairy Co. in having its coal carted over the roads vVas very severely criticised, and Crs. Parfitt and Madgwick were deputed to wait upon the directors of the company.
