HORAHIA DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF BOARD. The regular meeting of the Hordhia Drainage Board was held at Mr F. Kneebone’s residence, Horahia, on Friday, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Messrs F. A. Kheebone, J. McKerchar, W. E. Hale, J. C. Miller, J. M. Thompson, R. L. Davies, and the clerk, Mr W. E. G. Willy. PIAKO STOP-BANKS. Mr H. M. Campbell wrote drawing attention to the critical state of the stop-bank near the Shelly Beach wharf. Members agreed that it would be a paying proposition to have the repairs effected, and it was decided that that the overseer report to the area members, who were given power to act, the weakest places in the bank to be attenedd to in the meantime. DUAL DRAINS. The Hauraki Drainage Board wrote pointing out that the Horahia Board had not replied to the question: as to the credit to be given in respect of the drains proposed to be taken over or improved, and until that reply was received and the board had had an opportunity of. further considering the same it could not make arrangements for a conference, as suggested. Mr Hale said that the amount of money proposed to be spent in the pesation for the drains taken over. Hauraki area would be ample com■Mr Miller said that the matter would have to go to a commission. Mr Hale moved : “That the Horahia Board considers that the amount of money proposed to be spent in the Hauraki Board’s area is ample compensation for the drains taken over. Hauraki Board, and that the Horahia Board hopes to become co-partners in the drains incurring continuous annual expenditure, which must be a relief to the Hauraki Board.” —Carried.
Mr J. C. Miller moved that the clerk be instructed to write to the Hauraki Board pointing out that all the information asked for had now been supplied, and asking if it would now agree to a conference to discuss the matter.
Mr Hale opposed the motion, contending that the Hauraki Board had already been asked over and over again for a conference. The motion was carried, Messrs Hale and McDuff voting against it. THE COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME. The board’s engineer, Mr J. N. Anderson, submitted a report on a complete scheme of drainage for the whole of the board's area. The area ■was divided into 31 sectionjs, ea-h of which was served by one outlet drain. The report dealt; with the acreage of each area, the condition of the existing Outlet or the nature of the recommended outlet, .the work required on the existing outlet, together with the estimated cost. The total cost as estimated by the engineer was £14,00’0. The report was received and discussed at great length, and it was decided that the incoming board be recommended to adopt it. The secretary was instructed to convey the board’s appreciation of the thorough and capable manner in which Mr Andenson had gone into the matter. FINANCE. The chairman reported tnat there was a credit in the bank of £43 14s sd, and that after the accounts had been paid there would be a credit of £l3odd. Thei new board would therefore have some funds to commence work with. CONCLUSION. Being the last meeting of the board, the chairman, Mr W. MeDuff, thanked all members for their support and the clerk for his able assistance. He had tried to do his best as chairman, and hoped that all the presentl members eligible would be returned a.t the next election, which would be on November 2.
