COMING ELECTION.
CANDIDATE FOR OHINEMURI. MR. A. M. SAMUEL FOR REFORM. Little interest in the forthcoming parliamentary election has so far been evidenced in the Ohinemuri electorate, and doubt has been freely expressed that the seat would not be contested by other than the sitting member, Mr H. Poland. However, following on a visit to the electorate by the organiser for the Reform League, Auckland, a large and influential petition has been prepared and signed by residents and presented to Mr A. M. Samuel, of Tirau, Waikato, at a meeting of Reform supporters held in the Centenary Hall, Paeroa, on Monday evening, with a request that he contest the seat in the Reform Party’s interest.
A good number of supporters attended the meeting, and Mr Samuel was present by special invitation. After briefly explaining the reasons for which the meeting had been convened, Mr Samuel said that he would make his decision. known after- a meeting of supporters had been held at Waihi on Tuesday evening.
A representative .and enthusiastic meeting of supporters attended at Waihi last night, and a resolution was carried unanimously requesting Mr Samuel to contest the seat and pledging support for his candidature.
At the conclusion of the meeting Mr Samuel said that in view of the largely signed petition and the unanimous resolutions passed by supporters of the Reform Party at Paeroa and Waihi, he would be pleased to accede to the request of the electors and contest the Ohinemuri seat at the forthcoming election.
