FIRE BRIGADE.

REPORT OF COUNCIL. ‘SATISFACTORY POSITION SHOWN. The following report for the period ended August 31, 1925, was presented by the Fire Council to the Paeroa Borough Council at its meeting on Thursday last “The brigade is at its full strength of 13 members. Eight calls were made on the brigade, four being dwellings, and four caused by scrub. “The equipment is in fair 'order, and arrangements have been made to purchase four axes and four spanners to. make this complete. “It will be necessary during the next half-year to procure undress uniforms for the whole brigade, this item having been neglected during the last two or three years owing to lack of finance.

“As soon as we can procure definite information regarding benefits to be dreived from the insurance companies the question of a fire-reel will be considered and brought before your Council.

“It is pleasing to note tnat Dr. Gilbert Smith has qualified for the brigade’s Gold Star after 25 years’ service, and the brigade proposes th seek the Borough Council’s co-bpera-tion when the presentation takes; place.

“We would again remind your Council that we would appreciate the paptain of the brigade being consulted when laying out the fire plugs on the extensions and alterations now taking place in your water mains. “We herewith atta'ch our financial position to date, and ajs our funds are again lbw we propose making a canvass of the town within the next ten days.

“hi the brigade’s report satisfaction is expressed with the manner in which the caretaker, Mr Scott, is carrying but his duties.” In moving the adoption of the report Cr. Flatt said that he did not propose to press for the undress unitforms for the brigade at the present time, but he would be glad if the council would keep the request in mind. A canvass was at present being made of the business, premises in the borough, and a satisfactory, response was being met with.
