OBITUARY.
MAJOR-GENERAL C. W. MELVILL. News was received in Paeroa this morning that Major-General C. W. Melvlll, C. 8., C.M.G. D,5,0., A.D.U., N.Z.S.C., officer commanding the New Zealand Military Forces, who has been ill for the past few weeks, died in a private hospital at Wellington late last night, at the age of 47 years. The deceased was. a soldier and a man in the-true sense of the word, and had a distinguished career during the Great War. Included in the many important positions he held during the war was that of General Officer Commanding the N.Z.E.F. in the United Kingdom. Deceased was appointed General Officer commanding New Zealand Military Forces in April, of last year. The flag was flown at half-mast at the local Defence buildings to-day as a mark of respect.
