DISTRICT NEWS.
TURUA. TENNIS CLUB. The annual meeting og the Tuma Tennis Club, incorporated, was held last week, Mr F. C. Robinson presiding over an attendance of twenty members. The annual report disclosed a satisfactory state of affairs. The membership had been a record, there being 34 men, 21 ladies, and '4 juniors. A high standard of play had been maintained, and the club had won the Tennis Association’s A, grade competition. and had been runners up for the B grade competition, while members had done well in the tournaments. The balance-sheet showed that the financial position of the club was sound. The bank overdraft had been reduced by £35 during the year. The executive committee elected for the year were: Mesdames Clbtworthy and Bell, Miss Phillips, Messrs. Robinson, Scott. Macklow, Green, Howarth, and Clotworthy. Mr J. E. Green was appointed auditor. It was decided that for the purpose of raising funds to reduce the overdraft a fete be held on September 25, and that'the Minister, of Internal Affairs be applied to for permission to raffle several articles which had been given by members for the purpose. At a meeting of the committee held later, Mr A. H. Rogers was appointed president of the club, Mr F. C. Robinson treasurer, and Mr R. D. Macklow secretary, and details of the arrangements in connection with the fete were settled.
