CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
MONTHLY MKETINO. There was a good attendance of members at the Chamber of Commerce meeting last evening, the president, Mr P. Williams, presiding. PROPOSED HOSPITAL. On the motion of-Mr E. W. Porritt, seconded by Mr Pascoe, it was decided to write to the Minister for Public Health -supporting the resolution oi the Paeroa Borough Council in urging that the hospital be erected hi brick. In moving the resolution Mr Porritt said that although the tender , for the building in brick and concrete was more than that of wood the building in brick and concrete would ultimately be a great saving, POST OFFICE FENCE. Mr Porritt moved that a letter be written to tiie Minister for Public Works requesting that the frontage of the post office section in Normanby Road be fenced for its whole length in brick. It was stated that the present proposal was to put a portion in brick and the remainder in wooden palings, which would look unsightly in the main street. SCENIC RESERVE. The matter of urging the authorities to have the s-ecnic reserve at Karangahake and .Waitawheta protected from destruction was brought forward by Mr Leach, and it was decided to write to the department concerned in this bnnection. TREE-PLANTING. Mr Cas-srels urged that some stops should be taken to have vacant areas held by the Borough Council planted in trees, and also some Hauraki pastora lleases which were-of little use except for timber-growing, Mr Marshall said that no doubt the idea was good, but lie thought tree planting was- too expensive. No action was taken. SCENIC PHOTOGRAPHS. . Mr Leach stated that Mr Mitchell, the secretary, and he had obtained several photographs of the environs of Paeroa. He recommended tnat three of them should be sent to the publicity department, Wellington, the selections being of the Waitawheta Gorge, Karangahake Gorge, and .Paeroa Domain.' The photographs had been taken gratis by Mr Mitchell. Mr Leach moved that Mr Mitchell be thanked for his services, and that the chamber express its appreciation of the high-class work. . Seconded by Mr Steedman and carried. It wasi-also decided to forward the three photographs, as recommended.
