POLICE COURT.
PAEROA SITTING THIS MORNING. CASES DEALT WITH. A sitting of the Paeroa Police Court was held this morning, before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M. CANCELLATION OF ORDER. Mrs Isabella. Hansen (Mr R. S. Carden), Paeroa, applied to have a maintenance order made at Cambridge on March 16, 1922, against her husband, Hans A. W. Hansen, for £2 a week cancelled. —Granted. BREACHES OF DEFENCE ACT, Roy Henry Ratliff, Karangahake, was charged with failing to register for military service under the Defence Act. Sergt.-Major Busby appeared for the Defence Department and stated that Ratliff left school in 1923 and did not register until May last. A conviction was entered, with a fine of 10s and costs 7s. William Felts and Leslie Clifford Palmer, both of Paeroa, were similarly treated for like offences. FAILURE TO PARADE. Peter Nicholas Crosby was charged with failing to attend the parades of “A” Company, Hauraki Regiment, on June 15 and 29, and July 13, at Paer oa. A second charge of failing to notify his change of address was also entered. Defendant did not appear. Sergt.-Major Busby stated that defendant had been served with notices to attend drill. His Worship said he had received a letter from the boy’s mother stating that she would not let him attend parades on account of ill health. Crosby was convicted and fined £l. costs 7s, on each chiirge. THEFT OF BICYCLE. Fernleigh Dwight appeared on remand, and was charged with the theft of a bicycle on April 24 valued at £l2, the property of Robert Killgour, Komata.
Sergt.' Maclean conducted the case on behalf bf the Police, .'and stated* that accused had made a statement implicating a boy at Pukekohe. Later he had admitted the untruthfulness of the statement. ‘The bicycle had been considerably damaged, and a deliberate attempt had been made tb disguise the machine. . Mr R. S. Carden said that accused regretted having stolen the bicycle. The parts had been substituted to improve the machine and not to disguise it. The boy’s employer gave him a good character, and would continue to employ him and see that restitution was made. In reply to the Bench Constable McClinchy said that he would favour accused being granted a long term of probation. The Magistrate said that accused was liable to 12 months’ Imprisonment. He would be admitted to probation for two years and ordered to make good the damage done to the bicycle. ' MAINTENANCE SOUGHT. Alice Maud McKinnon (Mr Gorrie) proceeded against her husband, Angus Ronald McKinnon (Mr Carden), bushman, Cambridge, alleging that he had failed to provide her and her child with adequate maintenance. Separation, maintenance, and guardianship orders were sought by applicant. The orders were made, the rate of maintenance being 30s a week, payable weekly.
