SPRING.

SIGNS PREVALENT IN PAEROA. EARLY SEASON IN STORE.. Though keen nights and wintry weather may yet be expected spring in Paeroa seems to have definitely arrived. Generally speaking, the winter in Paeroa is of fairly brief duration, and scarcely have the wiffow trees shed their leaves before they show signs of bursting into 'fresh growth. Spring flowers are already fairly plentiful,'and some trees are ■making a beautiful show. First came the wattle, with its abundance of rich golden bloom, and now among ■ the thick foliage of the camelia the bright flowers are appearing in profusion. Soon the rhododendrons and kowhais will be making their contribution to nature’s display.

The local domain has received good good attention during the autumn and winter, and should soon have its spring attractions. Amateur gardeners at this season of the year are finding plenty to occupy their spare time. Ornamental hedges require attention, and during the past week or two there have been unmistakable signs of growth in the lawns, which are bearing a bright ■green appearance. The season has been particularly good for the propagation of seedlings, but gardeners are experiencing a trying time combating snails and slugs.
