MOTOR ACCIDENTS.
TWO MISHAPS ON TE AHOIIA HOAD
BOTH VEHICLES DAMAGED. •Shortly alter six o’clock on Wednesday evening a 7-seater Chandler car. owned by Mr J. Robinson, taxi-pro-prietor, Te Aroha, and driven by his son, "capsized over a culvert near Waitoki on the Paeroa-Te. Aroha road. The five occupants went over witn the car, anid were pinned underneath <c in the water. Fortunately they were able to extricate themselves from the perilous position, and came through the ordeal badly bruised and wet to the skin, but otherwise unhurt. It appears that the car, with four male was proceeding from Paeroa to Te" Aroha at a moderate pace when the lights suddenly failed. The evening was very dark, and it was raining heavily. Before the driver could stop the -car it had reached the edge of the culvert. The soft ground gave way and the car capsized. Help was sought from a nearby residence, and a car was sent out from Te Aroha to convey the travellers the rest of the journey. The car was recovered from the swamp by Mr S. Benison and towed back to Paeroa yesterday morning. The hood, radiator, andf rone axle appear to, be badly damaged, and many minor parts have been more or less strained or broken. MOTOR LORRY DAMAGED. COLLISION WITH A HORSE. •o>u Wednesday, just after dark, an employee of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board named F. Peacock was returning to Te Aroha from Paeroa in a one-ton motor truck. When nearing Gilchrist’s Corner, Ruakaka, Peacock noticed a horse and- gig approaching from the opposite direction on its, correct side of the road. He slowed down and passed the vehicle safely, but owing to the raiji on the windscreen lie did not sec a horse that was being led from the gig by a long rope. The rope-was sufficiently long • t<J| have allowed the horse to be well over on the wrong side of the road. As a consequence the motor truck hit the animal a terrific bump. The horse was badly cut about, and bonnet, cabin, radiator, and lamps oil the truck were twisted in all. directions. The driver, who wais uninjured, although badly shaken, had a marvell- - escape.
