NEW POST OFFICE.
WORK OF ERECTION. STEADY PROGRESS MAINTAINED. Steady progress is being maintained witli the erection of Paeroa’s new’ post office. Since the beginning of this week two strong-room doors, each weighing three-quarters of a ton, have been placed in position, and the construction of the two 14ft by 6ft strong-rooms has commenced. The three steel stanchions which will carry the bulk of the weight o( the second storey are now in position, and tlie erection of the supporting columns has been commenced. The construction of the outer walls, which will involve the use of 150,000 bricks-, has begun in earnest, and the team of expert bricklayers engaged on the job are making good progress. An interesting feature in connection with the building of the walls is that in every three feet bf wall built a layer of 8.8. bonding wire is used between the layers bf bricks for reinforcing purposes. The steel window frames to be used throughout the builidng have been indented from England by the contractors (Messrs Robinson and Beagley), and are due to arrive towards the end of the month. The majority of the door frames in the ground floor have been set in position and the brick and concrete work around them commenced. The work of erection has been seriously hampered of late owing to the number of wet days, but with the advent of the summer weather no time will be lost in pushing the work to a conclusion.
