HOSPITAL AGREEMENT.
- • TERMINATION BY WAIHI BOARD. DISCUSSION BY THAMES BODY. At Monday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital Board a letter was received from the Walin Hospital Board advising that all patients admitted from ( any place outside the Waihi hospital district would be charged £3 3s a ; , week, 01* 9s a day, as from June 9. The chairman (Mr W. E. Hale) said he did not think it was fair to make the increase retrospective. The agreement made with the Waihi • board was to have been terminated at any time, but no provision was made to make it retrospective. A month’s notice w T as to be expected. Mr Kennedy agreed. Mr Robinson contended that the agreement could not be terminated ft without reasonable notice. The chairman said that the board Would be justified in repudiating the termination of the agreement without due notice being given. After a lengthy discussion the following resolution was moved by Mr Brenan, seconded by Mr Danby, and carried : » “That in view of the proposed alteration of boundaries as agreed upon ‘ by the Thames and Waihi board at the Paeroa conference, this board suggests that the providing of treatment of patients, of the Thames hospital s . district between Rahu Road and the Waihi boundary for the sum of £125 per annum in an existing agreement be allowed to continue until the suggested boundaries between the two boardis are completed by the department. This board is of the opinion: that as the cancellation of the agree- <■ ment may cause considerable inconveniencc and illfeeling between the two boards and many patients, we respectfully suggest that until negotiations with the department are completed it would be advantageous to all parties to continue the existing agree- : ment. Failing the Waihi board’s approval of the request, the Thames board agree to the cancellation of the existing agreement as from July 13, 1925. Further, in the event of cancellation, this board notifies the Waihi board, and disclaims liability for payment of the fees of patients from the Thames hospital district treated in the Waihi Hospital excepting urgent cases when notification must be sent to the Thames board within 48 hours of admittance giving name, locality, and nature of ailment of patient so - admitted, such notification to be submitted to the Thames medical superintendent for. his confirmation or otherwise.”
