NEW DRAIN OBJECTION.

HORAIIIA-OI’OU AREA. MEETING OF SETTLERS. The proposal of the Horahia Drainage Board to have a new drain constructed near Messrs Thompson’s, Shilton’s'and Greenaway’s properties has been objected to by settlers in the locality. The objectors contend that while it would relieve one area, the new drain would overload the existing outlet to the Waihou River and cause flooding to or at least interfere with the drainage of land near the existing drain. Some twenty settlers met Messrs W. McDuff (chairman) and J. M. Thompson (area member), of tne Horahja Drainage Board at a meeting held at Parry’s Corner yesterday morning, and after the matter had been thoroughly discussed Mr Thompson agreed that the scheme should be abandoned and a new route sought as an outlet for the area to be drained.
