PAEROA TENNIS CLUB.
FINANCIAL POSITION DISCUSSED. . A BAZAAR DECIDED ON. A well attended meeting of the members of the Paeroa Lawn Tennis Club was’held in the Gaiety Theatre supper-rooms on Thursday evening last, the president (Mr R. L. Miller) presiding. Mr Miller explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of considering ways and means of raising money to reduce the club’s liability. Mr A. R. Gorric moved that the members organise a bazaar and spring flower show. Seconded by Mr I. Peek. .Mr R. B. Penlington (secretary), in answer to a' member, said that the total liability of the club was £345. The purchase price of the land was £2oo', plus a bank overdraft of £250 which was covered by guarantors. Since the property had been purchased the liability had been reduced by £lO5. The club wsa paying over £l2 a year in interest to the bank. He pointed out that it was desirable to relieve the guarantors of their burden as early as possible, and at the same time reduce the annual amount being paid out to meet interest. The club was quite sound, and the revenue received was sufficient to meet current expenses each season. If £lOO could be raised, however, it would help matters considerably, and place the club on a sound footing. In reply to Mr Steedman the president said that the lady members totaled 46. Mr Penlington remarked that if a sale of work was carried out it would be encumbent on the men to see that the main work should not fall on the ladies. Every member should be prepared to put a shoulder to the wheel and push the- project to a successful conclusion. The president said that the holding of an art union had been suggested, but the idea had been abandoned in favour of the bazaar and flower show. After a lengthy discussion it was decided that a bazaar be organised, and that the advisability of holding a flower show in conjunction with the sale of work be left in the hands of the 'committee, with power to act. The following special committee was iset up: Mesdames Topliss, Lawrence, and Pitts, Misses L. Thorp, L. Vincent, and Argali, and Messrs Pcnlington, O’Neill, and Peck. The date for holding the bazaar was left in the hands of the committee.
