Mr N G McLeod, engineer to the Thames Valley Power Board, stated at yesterday’s meeting of the board that the Government had set aside the sum of £25,000 for the construction of an extra supply l : ne from Pokeno to Waikino across the Hau’•aki Plains, in addition to a further MOOO for the erection of a sub-sta-tion on tlie Flauraki Plains. He understood that the work would be put in hand almost immediately. By such means i.te botird could be assured ot ■> continuous supply pf electricity.
The Thames Valley Electric Power Board is negotiating with he Lands Depatrment for the acquisition of an •irea of 523 acres of Crown land at Waitakaruru for the purpose of afforestation and supply of poles. F was stated at yesterday’s meeting of Gia beard that the area of land in uti'islion was believed to be ideal for pole-growing purposes, and it was ■ituated within four miles of a Wharf, while the proposed Pacroa-Pokenb railway line would pass along the ho indray.
