“PASSED AWAY.”

FIVE PLAINS BROTHERS. ' v , •K WILL THEY RISE AGAIN ’ J It is with great regret that we have to chronicle the passing ajvfcy of rive brothers well known to old residents of this district. When they came to the Hauran, Plains only the older residents remember ; but one was recently established in Netherton, one at Turua, a third at Patotonga, cne amidst the Government employees at Kerepeehiat d the youngest in the Awaiti settlement. Always working towards the same end, they were often times on their own, sometimes opposed to t acn other, and oa rare occasions in. partnership A.’d though weak in body and having li'tle strength of their own, their veiy natures compelled attention and led ethers, so that they became powets in their districts. Their voices were listened to bv their most powerful enemies, and their requests were granted for fear of public wrath. Like many great men, however, their bodies were weak and required constant attention to maintain life and growth, and when through some misadventure this attention was lacking they quietly slipped away. They did not die suddenly, but, like old soldiers, merely faded away. Maybe they are not dead, and possibly, Phoenix-like, they will rise again in all their pow“er, and tneir enemies will quail before them as be—fore and listen for their voices; but so fai this year not one of the Ratepayers’ Associations on ihe Plains has shown any sign of activity.
