The weather locally during the week-end was rather unpropitiouß. Satyrday morning dawned fine, but before midday rain-laden clouds appeared, and during the afternoon several heavy showers of rain fell. Some idea of the magnitude of the grip of sport .on the people of the Hauraki Plains can be gleaned from the fact that on Saturday afternoon Waitakaruru sent seventy players to take part in matches elsewhere on the Plains. New Zealand, long famous for its dairy produce, meat, hides, footwear, tweeds, blankets and rugs, bids fair to become no less celebrated for .its' tobacco. After m.any years of experimenting experts have at length succeeded in producing tobaccos (grown and cured within the Dominion) which in certain respects are actually superior to the best imported. Tne latter frequently contains an excess of nicotine, while the former contains tomparatively little, with the result that you can smoke these pure tobaccos with impunity, and their cultivation is likely to prove of, inestimable value to men on the land because the average yield of a tobacco ciop is worth £5O per acre nett. Strange to say. the barren gum country in the North, while quite unsuitable for Ordinary crojxs, grows splendid tobacco, and ultimately the industry must prove of national importance. N.Z. tobnedo is already on .the market, and •selling well, so smokers can “try it out" for themselves. Ask for Riverhead Gold, mild; Navy Cut (bulldog), medium; or Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullhead), full strength.**

For Coughs and Colds never fails, Wood’s Great Peppermint Cure.
