PLAINS COUNTY BRIDGES
KIRIKIRI AND MAUKORO.
MAUKORO AREA DEFINED,
A brief discussion took place at the Hauraki Plains County Council meeting on Tuesday with reference to the bridge policy. The matter was brought up by a communication from the Under-Secretary of the Public Works Department, who forwarded an etxraet from the N.Z. Gazette containing a copy of the warrant authorising the Minister for Public Works to construct the Kirikiri bridge ami apportion the cost in terms of the Public Works Act.
A similar letter was received :<n connection with the Maukoro deviation bridge.
The clerk stated that special orders were ueccissary, and he suggested that these, be made at the statutory meeting ,on May 27. Cr. Mayn said he would like to see the rating area for the Maukoro bridge defined. Cr. Miller moved, and Cr. Mayn seconded, that the whole county be the rating area for the Maukoro bridge. As an amendment Cr. Parlltt moved that a committee be set. up to define the rating areas for Pipiroa, Maukoro, and Ngarua bridges. Seconded by Cr. Harris. The council then went into committee.
On the amendment being put only Ci’s. Parlltt and Harris voted for it.
Cr. Harris moved a further amendment to the effect that the question be deferred until the special meeting on May 27.
Cr. Parfitt seconded, but on being put the mover and seconder were the oiiiv supporteis.
On the motion being put Crs. Miller, M-yn. McLoughlin, Nicholson, and Havward voted for and Crs. Hare, Parfitt, and Harris against.
At the previous meeting (he council defined the rating area for the Kirikiri bridge as the whole of the county.
