OVERHANGING TREES.

danger to electric lines.

DISCUSSION BY POWER BOARD,

•Speaking at the meeting of the Thames Valley' Power Board at Te Aroha, when discussing the question of framing remits for the forthcoming Power Boards’ Conference, Mr WE. G. Willy suggested that the board should seek authority to compel occupiers to cut trees down -'. here they endangered the board’s lines. He thought, that power boards should be given authority similar to local bodies The chairman said that people so offending were liable for the damage done.

Mr Willy pointed out., that that, was no recompense to settlers, if the .whole power system became thrown into chaos as a result of a tree falling on the lines. The. board was connecting more milking motors each, month, and where motors were dependent on a niece of copper wire to supply their electricity it was necessary that consumers should be protected. After a brief discussion it was resolved to forward a remit asking for the power that had been granted to local bodies. In seconding the resolution Mr Willy said that the matter should.be taken up -seriously. It was only fair that the settlers, especially those with milking motors, should be assured of the supply of electricity. By the fall of a tree damage could be done to linies that would render hundre’s of motors idle, and the risk of such inconvenience and annoyance to consumers should be reduced to a minimum.
