ENTERTAINMENTS.

GAIETY THEATRE PICTURES*

TO-NIGHT “ THE VENGEANCE OF PIERRE." "Tlie Vengeance of Pierre.” starring Lester Cuneo, which, is to be ‘shown to-night, is a great mother-love story without a mother in it. The hero is a big man of brawn who fights his way with his fists and is looked upon as a hard-hearted man. The tenderness of his heart is revealed by the fact that he makes the hidden grave of his mother his sanctuary, and to tlie mute mound of earth he pours forth his soul. This pathetic touch, cleverly wovfcn into the story by the author, is a striking relief to the rapid-fire action moments of a great melodrama, revolving about the figure of a hardy North-Woodsman wrestler. Mr Cuneo portrays the title part of Pierre, and has been surrounded by an exceptional cast’demanded for tlie portrayal of the author’s excellent characterisations. The btory opens with a big wrestling match, and there is but slight, relief from tense situations from beginning to end. SALVATION ARMY RALLY. Commissioner Hoggard, territorial leader of the Salvation Army, will deliver his famous recital ‘‘The shades of a great city” at the Paeroa Army Hall to-morrow evening at S o’clock. The Commissioner will be accompanied by Lieut-Colonel Toomer and Major Bladin, the popular Young People’s friend. The chair will be taken by Mr E. V. Slyfield.
