CATHOLIC SOCIAL.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A very successful dance and euchre tournament, organised by the local members of St. Mary’s Church and led by the capable secretary, Mrs G. H. Taylor, was held in the Gaiety Theatre, Paeroa, on Monday evening. The arrangements carried out to ensure the success of the function were very complete, and an enjoyable evening was spent by the large number present. Probably the principal source of interest was the euchre tournament, which .Was ably managed by Miss M. Shaw. About one hundred players took part, and competition was spirited for the handsome prizes provided. Prior to the supper adjournment the winnelns were announced by Mr J- M. Crosby as follows : Ladies, first prize Miss 1. Taylor, second prize Mrs J. White ; men, first prize Mr T. H. Hale, second prize Mr J. Simpson. The booby prizes were awarded to Mrs Ti-essida and Mr J. Smith.
The floor for dancing was in good order, and a large number danced to the strains of the music provided by Smith’s (Hikutaia) Orchestra. Extrae were contributed by Mesdames T. C. Short and Spencer, and Misses C. Taylor, I. Smith, and Mr R. Turnbull. A delicious supper was provided by th? ladies' social committee.
The object of the function., was to raise funds for church work, and in this respect the committee expresses •itself as being very satisfied with the rosnP. and support accorded.
