WORKS IN THE BOROUGH

COMMITTEE'S REPORT.

The, Works Committee presented the following report, which was adopted, to the Borough Council meeting on Thursday evening

"The continuance of fine weather hats been favourable for borough works and fair progress has been made during the month. In addition to the works mentioned in the foreman's report the roller, has scarified Moore Road and rolled the footpath and portion of the carriageway in Taylor’s Avenue; and a 9in culvert hap been put in across Taylor’s Avenue at its intersection with Hill Street. The committee has given all assistance possible to the department, and has endeavoured to co-operate »so as to hasten the completion of this work and to urge its importance on the department’s officers, and we have reason to hope that the footpath will be gravelled and available for use in a few days’ time. Satisfactory arrangements have been made concerning all fences on properties fronting Taylor’s Avenue.

“With the assistance of one ratepayer with a team and implements formation work is well in hand in Nahum Street, and very good work hah- been done. The ratepayers concerned offers to donate £2o’, to cflrt all the metal, and supply one man and team for a fortnight on formation work if the council will form, metal, and roll from the existing metal road to its intersection with Bennett Street, a distance of 9% chains. The spirit of self-help shown by these few residents, and particularly 'the work being done by Mr Innis, is very commendable, and worthy of support, and we recommend that the road be metalled put of loan money at an estimated cost of £lOO to the council. “Quotations have' been obtained for the necessary 4‘in pipes to supply the new railway station, and we ask for authority to order same and proceed forthwith with the work, as it is a matter of urgency.”
