FIRE COUNCIL.
HALF-YEARLY REPORT.
CONDITION OF BRIGADE.
The following report for the six months ended March 31, 1925, was presented by the chairman of the Fire Council (MrF, ELFlatt) .at Thursday’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council
“The brigade has been maintained at full strength. Fifteen meetings have been held and five fires attended. The equipment is in fain order. The building and equipment are now kept in order by a resident fireman, tor which he receives 5s a week.
"The brigade, sent a delegate to the annual conference, held in Christchurch, at their, own expense, and as th!• entails a considerable outlay the brigade and delegates are to be commended for their valuable assistance in this direction.
"The brigade has protested against the council staff taking the hose and hydrants without permission, and sugbests that some working arrangement be made between the captain and foreman, so that the caretaker will know his position. At present one double-headed hydrant is missing. “We are anxious to have the firebell removed to the station, where it would be much more convenient, and ask you to consult with the chairman and captain when this is being done. We also ask that the hose-dry-ing racks be erected as soon as possible, as the present system is not a good one. "The attached balance-sheet for the year ended March 31, 1925, shows a credit balance of £93 19s 4d in hand, less £95 2s 7d due to the reel fund, leaving a debit balance of £1 3s 3d.” The report was adopted, and it was agreed to give effect to the various recommendations as early as possible.
