— The Ngatea post office was handed over by the builders, Messrs Street and Street, of Hamilton, to the department on Monday last. A large number of local and district turf patrons, several of whom travelled by motor-car via the Hauraki Plains, attended: the Easter race meeting at Ellerslie. Reports state that, generally speaking, the roads to Auckland are in fair condition for travelling. Tne settlers on Pukahu'Road are at present rejoicing in the fact that that road has now been reformed, graded, and sanded for for a distance of 104 chains. A new drain hais also been provided for a similar distance on the south side of the road, wild the existing drain on the opposite side has been deepened and cleaned. The Ng.irahi stop-bank road is at present being regraded for a distance of 110 chain's. Both these works are being done from a grant made by the Government to the settlers, who will now have reasonable access to their sections during the coming winter months.

The application was recommended to the Minister for Mines, subject to a declaration being filed. A reduction to two men for six months 'was granted to G. A. Shaw on the Hauraki dredging claim, and also a similar reduction on the Desert Gold special river claim, to the jsame applicant was graned.
