VALEDICTORY.

REV. AND MRS. A. E. JEFFERSON.

A happy little social evening was given in tho Centenary Hall, Paeroa, on Wednesday last by the Paeroa Methodist Church members to farewell Mr and Mrs A. E, Jeffers n, v. lu leave Paeroa shortly to tak" un their residence at Marton. Mr W. Marshall presided over a large numbejr of church members, and there were also presen i the Revs. F. B. Dobson, Church of England ; H. Morgan, Presbyterian ; H. Brbokei’, Methodist, Hauraki Plains; and Captain Humphreys, Sa’cation Army.

During the evening vocal.and instrumental items were contributed by Mesdames W. Marshall, J. Dean, and A. L. Mitchell, Miss B. Jones, and the Rev. H. Brooker. Mr A. L. Mitchell was the accompanist.

During the evening Mr Marshal), on l.ehnlf of the church members, presented Mr Jefferson with a gold evorsi’uii’p pencil, Mrs Jefferson with a floating rose bowl, and gifts to Master Norris and Miss Kathleen Jefferson. Mr Marshall referred hi eulogistic terms to the good work perfomred by Mr Jefferson during his two years’ ministry in Paeroa, and said that his departure would be keenly felt by the mcmebers, and what was to be their loss would be the gain of the Marton people, Mr Marshall concluded by wishing Mr Jefferson and his wife and family good health, happiness, and success in their new sphere. The Revs. Dobson and Morgan also spoke in terms of high praise of Mr Jefferson’s work, both spiritually and socially.

Mr Jefferson feelingly responded, thanking the memebers for their tokens of esteem, and also for the help and co-operation which had been accorded him.
