MOTOR SMASH.

CAR OVERTURNS AT MANGMTI. PAEROA RESIDENTS INJURED. A serious motor-car smash which might easily have had fatal results ocurrecl on the main Paeroa-Te Aroha road ne'ar Mangalti on Tuesday evening last. It appears that a Ford car, containing Constable J. McClinchy and Messrs A. R. Gorrie and J. Handley, ■senr., all of Paeroa, was returning from Te Aroha, and when near tho Mangalti railway station a large car, travelling at a good speed, approacned from the opposite direction. Air Handley, who was sitting in the back sect, was uninjured, but the other two occupants were not so fortv.iii’te. Constable McClinchy received a severely lacerated right wrist and bruises, and Mr Gorrie, on whom the car was renting was severely bruised, but was otherwise unhurt. His escape from serious injury is regarded as wonderful. Help was sought from Mr Manning, wiio, after rendering what assistance he could, brought the sufferers to Paeroa.

The driver of the other car did not stop, and was apparently unaware that an accident had occurred. The Ford car, which was practically new, was badly damaged. The radiator was pushed forward, the leftha id mudguards were badty bent, and one front wheel and one rear wheel were damaged probably beyond repair; also the ;glass of the windpair : also the glass of the windscreen was shattered, and the steciring wheel and hood and framework were damaged considerably.
