OHINEMURI COUNTY.
WORK OF THE MONTH. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The following report for the month of March was submitted by the engineer (Mr E. Shaw) at Thursday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council: — "Plans and specifications have been mil mitted to the Public Works Department for forming and culverting 50 chains of Ngatitangata Road ; also for forming and culverting 47 chains and erecting a- 14ft span bridge on Patterson’s Road, Waihi. "Cadman Road Drain. —Re the subsidy mentioned in my last report, the same came to hand during the month. Tenders were called, and the work has been put in hand. "Deviation at. the Parakawai Landing, Whangamata Road.—l proceeded by car with Mr Kenny and had a survey of the above made and returned the same day. I hope to be able to proceed with the new formation at an early date
"The Whangamata Road from Mr Otto Ejerring’s to the boundary is, in a very rough state, and will need a considerable amount of reconstruction and upkeep. Seeing that there is only one ratepayer on this long stretch of road (approximately eight miles), which traverses Government land, and as there are no funds for mai'atance work. I would recommend that the notice of the Government be drawn, to the fact, arid t hat it be poclalmed a Government Road. The assistance of the Waihi Borough Council in bringing this matter before the Government may be asked, as this Local Body is interested in the road.”
Tt was agreed to get in touch with the Government and request it to take over and declare the rbad. “I would also recommend that the Council, in conjunction with the Thames County Council, ask the Government to place a sum of money on the current year’s estimates for the erection of a bridge over the Otahu Stream at the boundary of the two Counties.
"Waitete Bridge,—l conferred with Mr. May, resident Public Works Engineer, re the above, and he is also of the opinion that a single truss , span is sufficient, and has referred the matter to head office and is now awaiting a reply.
“Leopold's Road.—l interviewed the manager of the Grand Junction mine concerning the, company’s tramline for road purposes. At present they are undecided as to its further use, but will cable the company on the matter.
“Crushing Plant.—-The roller wheels have come to hand from A. and G. Price, Ltd., Thames, and are now on the gronud. As more metal for repairs was required thasr I had expected I continued crushing, and the same being delivered on to various roads, and also a quantity being placed at the dump. While this dry weather lasts it is useless to try to roll or do any scarifying. The dry weather and the traffic during race time have caused considerable damage to main roads throughout the county.
“The gears in connection with the swing span of the Puke bridge have given a good deal of trouble lately, and repairs have been temporarily effected.’’
