DANCING COMPETITION.
CHAMPIONSHIP RETAINED. THE WORLD'S BEST DANCERS. The world's dancing championship was contested recently at the Queen’s • Hall, and the titlq was won by Mr/ Maxwell Stewart and Miss Barbara Miles, who won the titled last year (states a London correspondent). Never did so many slim and shingled women foregather in a ballroom, and never did they find partners more certain in their steps. Gone are the days when the fox trot was a chaos of possibilities. It has developed into a 1 series of recognisable,, movements which really seem to represent a natural rhythm of human beings. , Of course, there was perfection of technique, at the Quelen’s Hall during the championship meeting, coupled with remarkable physical beauty, if not of face, then of figure. At the Queers Hail, the fox trot had lost element which proclaimed its origin in dusky California. Professional dauceib, men as well as women, make good incomes. Most of them run.dancing academies, but many make comfortable: salaries as partners at dancing halls and restaurants in London and Paris. It is said that at least 30 young male dancers in Paris make over £lOO9 in tips alone. In London the hotels pay .professionals to dance with their guests, giving them a fixed >salary, but in Paris the professional attends at the dancing room and takes - what he can get from the ladies who ■ favour him. The London method is the more satisfactory, for many reasons. Monte Carlo is another happy, - hunting ground for professional dancers, and capable young men are said to earn £3O to £4O a wejek during the Riviera season, chiefly at the expense of American travellers.
