DRINKING WATER.
PAEROA'S FORTUNATE POSITION. RESULT OF EXAMINATION. It is very gratifying to learn that Paeroa is in the fortunate position of having an adequate supply of water under normal circumstances for its needs for many years to come, even allowing for double the size of its population; also that the quality of the water is considered by experts to be .among the purest obtainable in New Zealand.
The following report has just been received by Inspector B. Franklin from the District Health Office, Auckland, and handed to the Ohinemuri County Council :— “As a result of a bacteriological examination of water (not chlorinated) taken from the Paeroa reservoir on February 3 last, we report the number of colonies on agar at 37 deg. c„ equals 70 per c.c. ; the number of colonies on gelatine at 22 deg. c.c., liquefying 1 per c.c. B.Coli absent in 100 c.c. Remarks : This is an excellent water for a domestic supply.” This satisfactory position was favourably commented upon by the members at last Thursday’s meeting of the Ohinemuri County Council.
