BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

•— ADJOURNED MEETING HELD. PUBLIC APPEAL FOR HEL> J . Tiie adjourned meeting of the Paeroa Beautifying Society was held in tiie Borough Council Chambers on Monday evening last, the president (Mr AV. Marshall) presiding over the following: Misses Shaw", Brownbill, Rickard, Dutton (secretary), and Messrs G. H. Tayfor, E. E. Gillman, and J. E. Bigelow. The serious position of the society regarding funds w t as fully considered, and it was decided to make an energetic canvass of those members who .were in arrears with their subscriptions. Misses Shaw and Rickard kindly undertook the work of collecting It was agreed that the task they ha ! before them was anything but a pleasant one, and it' was earnestly thoped by the committee that members would cheerfully respond by having their subscriptions ready when the collectors called.

It was resolved to present the names of .all defaulting members to the annual meeting, which is to be hold shortly.

Miss Dutton tendered her resignation owing to her departure from Paeroa This was accepted with very great regret, and a motion placing on record the committee’s sincere appreciation of the splendid services rendered by Miss Dutton, not only as secretary, but as an active .worker at the Church Corner flower-bedp in particular and on the railway station flowerbeds.

Miss Brownbill, wno has been actively associated with Miss Dutton in this work, has also resigned, and it was agreed that the departure of these members meant a distinct loss to the society.

Miss Butler was appointed Secretary-

Maintenance of the work on the Mlhoedist Church corner was generously undertaken by Miss Rickard. Owing to several persons leaving Paeroa, volunteers are urgently asked for to undertake the work bf caring for three ffower-beds at the railway station, and the committee makes a general appeal for public assistance In its work,
