ENROLMENT OF ELECTORS
CLOSING DATE MARCH 6.
REGISTRATIONS LAGGING. Under the old system of voluntaryregiistratiou the number of electors on the Ohinemuri electoral roll used at the last Parliamentary . election was 7668. Under .the Legislature Amendment Act of last session enrolment of ■ eligible electors is compulsory. .
Although Friday, March 6, is the last day on which application for enrolment can be made, the registrar at Paeroa has received only 3368 registration's up to February 14, of which number it has been found necessary to reject 641 as informal. The new roil will, no doubt, be larger thaai the old one. chiefly owing to increase Jn. population, and also because Jn the days of voluntary enrolment many, people did not bother to register.: In view of the fact that at a conservative estimate about 3300 applications have yet to be received, there is every indication of an eleventhhour rush. Eligible electors who fail to recognise their responsibilities in the matter before March 6 render themselves liable to prosecution. . .
