T.V. ELECTRIC POWER BOARD.
(To tbe Editor]. Sir,—ln a recent issue of your paper Air W. Marshall, the Mayor of Paeroa, is reported to have said that the Thames Valley Power Board was losing £lOO a week. I would be pleased to have the following figures placed before your readers. They arc actual figures taken to December 31, 1924, and may be taken as a basis for the remaining quarter: From April 1, 1924, to December 31, 1924 : Income : Sale of current, £40,071 Ils 3d ; estimated proportion of excess butterfat charges, £6OOO ; surplus from trading account, £5OOO ; total, £51,071 Ils 3d. Expenditure: Power purchases, £15,340 13s lOd ; interest and sinking fund, £28,125; maintenance and administration, £6671 Is 9d; total, £50,136 15s 7d. In the beginning of the year my Board decided on reduction in the charges on milking motors estimated to give relief in that direction to the extent of approximately £4OOO. It also decided to strike what is called a •‘non-consumers’ ” rate, not to make up losses, but to act as a stimulus to those who urged the establishment of our system and then failed to assume their responsibility by connecting to the same. This rate, which will produce between £4oo'o and £5OOO, has not been taken into account in the foregoing figures.
F. H. CLAXTON, Chairman.
