HIKUTAIA CLUB. CLOSE' GAME FOR STARS. On Saturday the Hikutaia Bowling Club sent four rinks to Morrinsville, where an inter-club match was played. The club also, challenged Morrinßville for the Goldfields Stars. This game proved a closely contested one, and the visitors put up a strenuous fight to win the coveted trophieis. The scoring was very even throughout, and on the 18th head the points were - : Morrinsville 18, Hikutaia 13. On the 19th head Hikutaia gained five points, making the score 18 all. The 20th head saw Morrinsville add one point, Great excitement prevailed at this utage, and when the skips Went down for the last time Hikutaia was lying two up. The skip (A. R. Robinson) had delivered his last bowl, when Branch (Morrinsville) with his last bowl attempted to drive into the head. He. drove wide, but had the greatest good luck in getting a “wick” off a non-counting bowl which turned his own bowl into the head and actually left Morrinsville lyijng one up. The shot was an extraordinarily lucky one. and demonstrated once again that a game of bowls is not won until the last bowl has been delivered. The teams were : Morrinsville, Donald, Needham, Binks, Branch (skip) ; 'Hikutaia I. M. Robinson, W. K. Morrison C. Winder, A. R. Robinson (skip). The Hikutaia team received hearty congratulations on all sides on the splendid showing put up, and not a little sympathy was extended to them on having what looked like a certain victory'snatched from their' grasp by the narrow mai'gin of a skip’s last bowl.

In the aggregate in the inter-club match Morrinsville won by one point, the scores being: Morrinsville 79, Hikutaia 78.

The Hikutaia players were loud in their praises of the hospitality extended to them and the good fellowship met with at Morrinsville.
