The monthly meeting of the Ngatea Public Hall Society was held on Wednesday evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding over Messrs E. H. Brooker. W. McDuff, S. Phillips, W. J. Clare, and the secretary, Mr J. N. Anderson. An offer to lease the section of land adjoining the hall section at an annual rental of £lO 10s was received from Mr J. E. Reid. Mr W. McDuff submitted an alternate offer from the same man to purchase the section less a ten-foot right-of-way as required by the committee. He was of the opinion that it would be a good proposition for the committee to sell the land at the price offered. The matter was discussed at length, and it was pointed out that the utilisation of the section for any purpose would be a benefit to the appearance of the towniship. The committee by selling the section was obtaining the right-of-way it desired and making £22 on its deal. On the motion of Mr McDuff, seconded by Mr W. J. Clare, it was decided that the balance of the section beside the hall after cutting off a 10ft right-of-way adjacent to the hall section be leased to Mr J E. Reid, engineer, of Ngatea, for five years, with a compulsory purchasing clause at £l5O. the rental to be seven per cent; on the purchase money together with all rates, etc., and the purchaser to pay all costs of subdivision. The financial statement presented by the secretary showed that the debit balance was £406 13s Hd, accounts presented for payment amounted to £9 12s, and accounts outstanding totalled £l2 15s.
Mr McDuff was deputed to attend to the broken windows in the, build-
ing. It was decided to make a donation of one guinea to the school committee for the Hauraki Plains school dental clinic.
A vote of thanks to Mr Manktelow for having disposed of sundry articles left over from the last bazaar was carried
