THAMES HARBOUR.

MEETING OF BOARD. A brief meeting of the Tnames Harbour Board was held in the board’s offices "at Thames yesterday, there being present: Messrs R. Coulter (chairmna), E. N. Miller, A. A. Wagstaff, D. Donaldson, S. J. Laughlin, D G. McMillan, S. A. Hetherington, J. W. Danby, and the secretary, Mr E. VSanders. LOAN OF £40,000. In reply to the board's application for a loan of £40,000 for harbour improvements letters were received from the following stating that there was no money available for the purpose at the present time : Provincial Assurance Co., Ltd., Public Trust Office, Government Life Insurance Department, Provident Life Assurance Co., N.Z. Insurance Co., Ltd., Norwich Union Life Insurance Co., Australasian Temperance and General Mutual Life Assurance Society, Australian Mutual Provident Society, and the National Mutual Life Association. QUOTATION FOR PILES.

A Tauranga firm quoted eight black birch piles at £6 a pile, as against the same price for eucalyptus piles submitted by a Paeroa firm. On the recommendation of the engineer the Tauranga offer was accepted CHARGES FOR WATER. A letter was received from the N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., dating that for years it had been the piactice of the company to supply the board with fresh water at Kopu at the rate of 9d a thousand gallons. The company wag now desirous of terminating the present arrangement, but would be prepared to supply water at a flat rate of £5 per annum.—Deferred until next meeting. * ROYALTY ON SAND. 'J'lie Paeroa office of the Public Works Department wrote stating that complaints had been received from an Auckland firm because the department had charged royalty on sand removed from the Waihou River. The letter stated that the firm in question had also been charged royalty by the board. It was pointed out that the department had the right to charge royalty under the Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers Improvement Act, but it wished to know on what authority the board collected its royalty. The secretary stated that the board was entitled to charge under section 159 of the by-laws of the Harbour Boards Act, and it was decided to advise the department accordingly, SAVINGS BANK ACCOUNT. The chairman and secretary were appointed trustees of the post office savings bank sinking fund account. FINANCE. It was resolved that the balancesheet and statement of accounts be adopted. Accounts totalling £2392 on the general account and £3178 on the loan account were passed for payment.
