WAIHI BEACH ROAD.
REPAIRS FOR SUMMER TRAFFIC. GREAT IMPROVEMENT EFFECTED. The Waihi Borough Council has started to work in real earnest on the Waihi Beach road. It has a grader loaned by the Ohinemuri County Council and also its own road roller at work, and very substantial repairs have been made. The Waihi “Telegraph of Saturday states that from the turn off on the Tauranga road, which was full of holes and bumps, the whole length to the top of the gorge has been scarified, filled, and rolled till now it is in perfect order. On turning into the beach route the traveller first notices that the corners have been appreciably widened. From this point to Munro’s Hili the road lias been graded and rolled until it is in pei feet condition for summer traffic. All the holes and bumps have disappeared, the sides have beew ploughed, and a good, smooth, wide highway is obtained. The grader on Wednesday had reached the entrance to the gorge and was paving the way for the roller, which does its work at a greater speed than is usually the case in such engines. At Rocky Corner, where the sea is first sighted, there were five workmen hewing stone from a roadside quarry. The metal obtained will be spread on the road, and- has to be blasted out. This helps to widen a particularly dangerous corner. It is hoped that the whole of the road' right down to the beach.will be finished by Christmas,
